COVID-19 Information 3/13/20- AM Update

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Over the past few days, discussion and media coverage in regards to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) has increased at the local, state, and national levels. Please be assured that we are diligently monitoring this situation based on guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH), and Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE).

Based on the most recent information available, Coronavirus symptoms are similar to the flu. With this in mind, we will continue the following protocol at each campus and request that all students, parents and employees become even more diligent in taking a proactive approach to limit and perhaps prevent this virus from spreading should it reach our community.

Preventive action protocol:

·         Continuous cleaning and disinfecting of commonly shared surfaces.

·         Encourage good hygiene practices such as proper handwashing and covering coughs.

·         Promote the “24-hour fever-free without the use of fever-reducing medications” practice as advised by both the CDC and ADPH.

·         Encourage staff and students to avoid close contact with people who are sick.

As advised by the Alabama Department of Education, Alexander City Schools will be canceling all field trips effective immediately through April 30, 2020.

As in all situations, we will maintain a proactive and responsive approach to issues and concerns that may impact the well-being of our students and staff. Should we receive additional information and guidance by the above agencies, we will modify our practices as may be necessary.

Please visit our website for the latest information regarding COVID-19.

We appreciate your support as we strive to provide a healthy environment for our students and staff.

Sincerely,

Dr. Keith Lankford, Ed.D.
