Transportation
The mission of the Alexander City Schools Transportation Department is to ensure that all eligible children have access to full educational opportunities by providing safe, reliable, and comfortable transportation to and from school. In addition, the department supports instructional goals by providing transportation for field trips and extracurricular activities.
Alexander City Schools operate more than twenty buses each day. The transportation department serves an average of 2,047 students daily, representing 69% of the district’s enrollment. Buses travel approximately 1,500 miles per day, with an average route time of 1.5 hours. The longest bus route spans 65 m
The transportation department maintains its fleet through a ten-year renewal cycle as part of the district’s capital improvement plan. To ensure buses remain in top condition, mechanics perform monthly, bumper-to-bumper inspections and servicing. In addition, all buses undergo an annual inspection conducted by the State Inspector and must display the official inspection sticker on the windshield.

Our Drivers
All transportation employees are covered by the drug testing policy established by the Board of Education and in compliance with the Department of Transportation. All transportation employees must have a current CDL to drive a bus along with a valid Alabama School Bus Driver Certificate. Technology is used in maintaining bus routes and discipline.
The transportation department employees participate in annual professional development workshops and must have ten hours of credit to maintain employment. They must also attend a four-hour re-certification class each year to maintain the Alabama Drivers Certificate.
